To deal with the problem of littering faced by visitors and staff, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) installed warning boards against littering and announced to impose a fine of Rs 200 on violaters.

Around 20 such boards were installed on the hospital premises Tuesday. The hospital receives around hundreds of patients and their attendants daily. Most often they throw food wrappers and plastic bags in the compound.

Meanwhile Lok Sabha MP Gurjit Singh Aujla visited the hospital early in the morning on Tuesday to ensure that mattresses and other items donated by the local NGO Sanjhi Chhan are put to use for the general public.

The NGO had on Monday donated 250 mattresses and 500 bedsheets to the hospital alongwith other items. Speaking on the occasion Aujla lauded the role of the hospital management for making efforts to ensure cleanliness.

Medical superintendent Dr Surinder Paul said they are thankful to the social organisations and NGOs, which are contributing for the cause of providing better services to poor patients. He said the hospital is also making efforts to provide facilities from its own resources.

The move of the hospital management for cleanliness has also promoted local NGO Voice of Amritsar to announce to donate 100 dustbins to the institute. Seenu Arora of VOA said the dustbins would be supplied within few days.

In a function on Monday, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had announced a grant of Rs 10 crore for the hospital on behalf of the state government. Sidhu along with PWD minister Vijay Inder Singla and Education minister OP Soni had also announced to give Rs 20 lakh each from their discretionary funds for the hospital.
