Local residents in large numbers thronged the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) here on Sunday. A walkathon was organised on the occasion in which more than 300 people participated.

Visitors could be seen enjoying food at stalls set up by traders, who have come from various parts of the country, including Delhi and Rajasthan. Since its inauguration, over one lakh people have visited the expo so far.

Visitors enjoyed Rajasthan’s traditional thali consisting of ‘dal bati’, ‘kesari sabji’ and snacks such as ‘kachori’ and ‘jalebi’.

‘Makki di roti’ and ‘sarson da saag’ are also on the platter. “I have come with my entire family today (Sunday). The food is amazing at the fair. I liked chat and ‘sarson da saag’,” said a visitor, Neha.

In the morning, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organised a walkathon to create awareness about donating organs. The walk began passed through markets and streets of the holy city. The walk was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Ravinder Singh.

RS Sachdeva, chairman, Punjab chapter of PHDCCI, underlined the need for educating the masses to donate their organs liberally with a view to save lives of the afflicting persons.

Regional director of PHDCCI Madhu Pillai, local convener Jaideep Singh and others were also present on the occasion.

Punjab Food Processing Minister OP Soni also honoured exhibitors on the exhibitors.

Addressing a gathering, Soni said, “Unemployment and agriculture problems can be solved if farmers and industrialists work together. There are immense possibilities of food processing in Punjab.”
