Many trains have been once again temporarily diverted, short terminated and short originated for varying period with immediate effect at the local railway station to facilitate the maintenance work at the railway workshop in the city.

Earlier, the operation of most of the trains was resumed on August 1 after a fortnight-long stoppage. Plying of 34 trains had been stopped from July 19 to July 31 as the work to switch over from the obsolete lever frame system to state-of-the-art electronic inter-locking was under way.

Due to the ongoing work at the city railway yard, the schedule of many trains has been affected. This arrangement will remain in force till August 22.

Bhatinda–Jammu Tawi Express (19225) has been diverted via Jalandhar City-Mukerian-Pathankot till August 22. Tatanagar-Jammutawi Muri Express (18101) and Delhi Junction-Pathankot Superfast Express (22429) have been diverted via Jalandhar Cantt.-Mukerian-Pathankot till August 20 and 22, respectively.

Jammu-Tawi–Bhatinda Express (19226) will run via Pathankot-Mukerian-Jalandhar City till August 22.

Jammutawi–Tatanagar Muri Express (18102) and Pathankot-Delhi Junction Superfast Express (22430) have been made to run via Pathankot-Mukerian-Jalandhar Cantt till August 22.

Meanwhile, Saharsa-Amritsar Jannsewa Express (15209) and Darbhanga-Amritsar Jannayak Express (15211) have been short terminated at Jalandhar City till August 30 and 29, respectively.

Amritsar-Saharsa Jannayak Express (15212) and Amritsar-Darbhanga Jansewa Express (15210) will short originate from Jalandhar City till August 31.

Passengers, shopkeepers and vendors at the railway station are annoyed due to frequent changes in the schedule of trains.

“Earlier, there used to be protests and traffic blockades hurting our business. Now, the railway is stopping trains to facilitate its maintenance. Why can’t the management plan the maintenance works at the same time,” questioned a shopkeeper, who didn’t wish to be named. He said the railway charged high rent from them and didn’t offer any relief on account of closures.
