The court of the RS Bajwa, Additional District and Session Judge, in a decision has acquitted a man in a six-year-old case, in which Gurroop Kaur, wife of Jaglal Singh, had been allegedly strangled. Those acquitted have been identified as Jaglal Singh and his father (late) Bhagwan Singh, both residents of Pakhopur village, falling under Chohla Sahib police station.
Gurroop was married to Jaglal Singh in 2014 and she allegedly died by suicide on June 23, 2020. Mangal Singh, father of Gurroop, in his statement to the police, said that his daughter had been strangled by her husband Jaglal and father-in-law Bhagwan Singh.
Folowing this charge, both had been arrested, but later got bail. Bhagwan, who was 85 years old at the time of the death of Gurroop, died two years back during the court proceedings. Advocate Navjot Kaur Chabba and Manuwant Singh Chabba, lawyers of the accused, told the court that Gurrop had died by suicide as she had illicit relation with one of her relative, Gursharanjit Singh, a resident of Ruriwala village.
Following court proceedings and after listening to both sides, the judge acquitted Jaglal Singh.
