Amritsar, May 25

Four members of a family, including two women, in Sharifpura were booked after a man committed suicide in Green Avenue here on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Jasdeep Singh. The accused, Jaspreet Kaur (wife), Gurmeet Singh (father-in-law), Daljit Kaur (mother-in-law) and Harmeet Singh (brother-in-law), all residents of Mohalla Sharifpura, have been booked for allegedly forcing the deceased to end his life.

Harminder Kaur, sister of the deceased, stated in her complaint to the Civil Lines police that Jasdeep got married to Jaspreet Kaur in 2011. The couple had a son. She alleged that the accused had been harassing her brother and also tried to occupy his property. Following a dispute in 2015, Jaspreet Kaur went to her mother’s house along with her child. Jasdeep was upset since then. He consumed some poisonous substance to end his life, the complainant stated.

The police have slapped Sections 306 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). ASI Karanjit Singh, in charge of Green Avenue police post, said an investigation into the case was on. No arrest has been made so far.
