Man dies in road accident

AMRITSAR: Ramesh Kumar (58), a resident of Loharka road, was killed after a rashly driven car ran over him at Ranjit Avenue here on Friday. He was travelling on a scooter when the incident took place.

Ramesh Kumar (58), a resident of Loharka road, was killed after a rashly driven car ran over him at Ranjit Avenue here on Friday. He was travelling on a scooter when the incident took place.

The car driver, identified as Vikas Kumar (35) of Sher Shar Suri road, was arrested and later released on bail.

His son Atul Kumar Sharma stated to the police that the deceased was going to the city railway station on his scooter (PB02DN1171). He was passing through Ranjit Avenue and while taking turn towards the C Block market of Ranjit Avenue, a Bolero car (PB30N2556), which was at a high speed, came from behind and hit his scooter before hitting an electricity pole. Ramesh Kumar sustained severe injuries. The driver of the car fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind. He was later arrested and released on bail.

Ramesh Kumar was taken to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital from where he was referred to a private hospital near Verka bypass. Later, he succumbed to his injuries. The police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code against the car driver.
