Amritsar: The narcotics cell of the police have arrested a man for allegedly possessing 1 kg of opium and poppy husk. He has been identified as Kanwarpal Singh, a resident of Ugar Aulakh village in Ajnala. According to the police, he used to supply drugs to addicts in the area. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against him. Further investigations are on, the police added. TNS

Liquor seized in jail

The Amritsar Central jail authorities have confiscated six packets of cigarettes and 1200 ml of illicit liquor stashed in a soda bottle from inside the jail premises during a surprise search operation. The prohibited material was found abandoned at different places in the high security jail. Jail authorities filed a compliant against unknown jail inmates with the Gate Hakima police where a case was registered. TNS
