Amidst the tight security following a red alert after abrogation of Article 370 and rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the police have nabbed a person with an illegal weapon and four bullets from Gumtala Chowk. The police also recovered a stolen bike from his possession.
A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered against him.
Investigating officer Vijay Kumar said the accused, Chandan Gosai, had several cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act registered against him at various police stations. He said he was a drug addict.
Earlier too, the police had recovered two country-made pistols from his possession in 2015. He came out of jail on July 15 this year.
During the search, the police found a .32 bore pistol and four live cartridges from him. He was produced in the court and sent to judicial custody. Questioning revealed that a person named Raju of UP supplied him weapons. However, he did not know his whereabouts. He said Raju used to find him whenever he had to make the delivery of weapons. Police officials said investigations were on to check the antecedents of Raju and arrest him, too.
