The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute over Rs 21,000 related to payment for goods purchased for a community langar. The victims, identified as Balwinder Singh and his son Gurpreet Singh, sustained bullet injuries, and were admitted to a nearby hospital.
According to preliminary information, the victims had purchased grocery items from a local shopkeeper and had assured payment by April 10. However, the payment could not be made on time, leading to a dispute between the two parties. The police said the shopkeeper, along with accomplices, allegedly reached the victims’ residence and attempted to take away a motorcycle and other belongings in lieu of the pending amount. When the family resisted, one of the accused reportedly opened fire.
Around four rounds were fired during the incident. Balwinder Singh sustained a bullet injury in his leg, while his son was hit in the arm. The assailants fled the scene as locals gathered after hearing gunshots. Family members rushed the injured to hospital, while the police reached the spot soon after being informed.
Station House Officer Harpal Singh said efforts were on to identify and arrest the accused.
