The Amritsar Municipal Corporation has invited non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support food distribution at its night shelter homes (Raen Basera and Yatri Niwas). As there is currently no provision for a free kitchen within these shelters, the Municipal Corporation arranges for meals with the help of religious bodies and NGOs.

MC officials said the move, approved by the Municipal Commissioner, seeks to ensure uniform and quality food services for all homeless individuals staying at the shelters. By partnering with dedicated NGOs, the Municipal Corporation aims to provide consistent meals to every resident using the facilities. The night shelters run under the Municipal Corporation, which collectively accommodate around 125 people, and currently rely on voluntary contributions to meet food requirements. The authorities believe that involving more NGOs will help strengthen the system and ensure timely and nutritious meals for all shelter residents.

The MC has appealed to NGOs willing to support the initiative to contact the designated Nodal Officer (Shelters) at the Municipal Corporation. Officials emphasised that community participation can significantly improve the living conditions of homeless citizens relying on these night shelters.
