Amritsar, July 15

Despite the government’s notification to implement e-governance in all the civics bodies, the birth and death records at the Municipal Corporation (MC) are still being maintained manually, claims Sanjay Khosla, president, Safai Mazdoor Union.

Khosla conducted a press conference and criticised the MC for defying the orders of the government. He said the officials concerned might have been hand in glove with fake certificate mafia.

“The state government had issued the orders in 2014 to make online the certification process for the birth and death certificate, but the MC has failed to implement the orders,” he said.

Showing a death certificate issued on May 20, Khosla said Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and MC Commissioner Sonali Giri had launched the online certification system in February, but the ground reality is different.

“The officials and employees are in collusion with some fake certificate mafia. They are deliberately not adopting the online system,” he said, adding that the computers installed at the Municipal Corporation zone 6 office for the online certification had been lying defunct.
