To tackle unauthorised development, the Amritsar Municipal Corporation, led by Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh, has demolished over a dozen shops and structures in an illegal colony at Mulechak village in the south zone here today. The demolition team, comprising Assistant Town Planners (ATPs) Wazir Raj, Varinder Mohan and Parminder Jeet Singh, Building Inspectors Angad Singh, Raj Rani and other staff, used heavy machinery to bring down shops, lintels and walls, as well as the sewerage system and other constructions in the illegal colony. The decisive action followed previous warnings and earlier demolition attempts.

In another case of an under-construction hotel at Ashok Chowk, the MC partially demolished the building. Despite being sealed earlier, construction had resumed at the hotel. This prompted the MTP Department to take stringent measures. The hotel was partially demolished and re-sealed to prevent further unauthorised construction.

“This drive against illegal constructions is part of the MC’s efforts to maintain order and ensure compliance with building regulations in Amritsar. Similar actions have been taken earlier and we will continue it,” said the MC Commissioner. MTP wing officials warned those involved in illegal construction activities, emphasising the importance of adhering to building codes and regulations.
