Amritsar: MC team fails to remove encroachment near Sakatri Bagh due to lack of police support
Authorities warned that encroachers should remove their structures voluntarily or be prepared to face strict action
The Estate Wing of the Municipal Corporation Amritsar was unable to carry out a planned drive to remove an alleged illegal occupation outside Sakatri Bagh on due to the unavailability of police support here today.
According to Municipal Corporation officials, a Nihang has allegedly encroached upon government land near Sakatri Bagh. Acting on the complaint, an Estate Wing team reached the spot around 7 am to remove the encroachment. However, the action had to be postponed as the local police did not provide the required force for assistance.
Estate Officer Sushant Bhatia said that in the absence of adequate police deployment, the team could not proceed with demolition of the structure. Two Nishan Sahibs were also installed on the land so we written to Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak committee to intervene”. He added that the encroacher was issued a fresh warning and some material from the site was seized by the civic staff.
“The action will be taken as soon as police force is made available. Illegal occupation of government land will not be allowed to continue,” Bhatia said.
Officials said that today the Corporation removed some other illegal encroachments and roadside rehris from the surrounding area. During the drive, goods belonging to a person allegedly selling intoxicating cannabis were also confiscated and he was removed from the spot.
The MC reiterated that it will not tolerate any kind of illegal encroachment in the city. Authorities warned that encroachers should remove their structures voluntarily or be prepared to face strict action.
