Intermittent showers since early morning hours resulted in a dip in the temperature here today. In the evening, hailstone lashed various parts of the city, making the weather chillier.

Mild showers started at around 2 am. The chill in the air kept most of the pedestrians and bikers off road. The city recorded mild showers intermittently throughout the day but the evening hours witnessed heavy rain with hailstones.

Farmers and agricultural experts, however, stated that these showers were beneficial for the wheat crop. “It is the fourth spell of rain in the entire winter season. Amid scarcity of rainfall, today’s showers are beneficial for the crop. It will help maintain soil moisture,” said an elderly farmer, Joginder Singh.

A rise in the day temperature has been observed in the last few days. “Though the nights are still chillier, day temperature had increased these days. It is hoped that the showers will bring the chill back,” said another resident, Kewal Mahajan.

The rain, meanwhile, left commuters, especially bikers and pedestrians, hassled. Waterlogging was seen on some roads.
