Armed persons with masked faces entered a house posing as cops and looted the family after confining them at night. The police registered a case though it was still clueless about the perpetrators of the crime.

The incident occurred in Subhash Colony on 88-foot road located in Majitha road here. Prem Nath, owner of the house, said that he along with his wife and son live in the house. He said the miscreants entered the house from the rooftop.

He said that the accused woke them up and said that they were from Sadar police station. They said the police had the information that they (Prem Nath’s family) were involved in drug peddling and wanted to search the house.

He said the accused detained them in a room and started searching the entire house. They did not allow them to switch on the lights. After an hour, they went away after shutting the gates with ropes.

He said when they searched the house later, they found Rs 3 lakh and 20 tola of gold jewellery missing from the house. They immediately informed the police which started a probe.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Varinder Singh Khosa said that footage from the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area were being analysed to find clues about the crime.

The police have found some men with covered faces. Further probe was on in the matter.
