MLA Gupta, MC Commissioner inspect areas hit by severe sewerage problems
Officials assured immediate deployment of machinery to clear blockages and restore normal drainage
To address long-pending sewerage issues, Central Assembly constituency MLA Dr Ajay Gupta and MC Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill on Friday inspected Moole Chak village and Fateh Singh Colony, accompanied by senior officials of the Amritsar Municipal Corporation. Residents reported facing persistent problems such as choked lines, overflowing sewage, and, in some pockets, the absence of any sewerage network.
After the visit, MLA Dr Ajay Gupta said residents had been approaching him for several days regarding the worsening situation. He said the joint inspection with the MC Commissioner was conducted to assess ground realities. All parts of the affected localities were reviewed, and he assured that machinery would be deployed immediately in areas where sewerage lines are blocked or overflowing to restore normal functioning.
MC Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill said a comprehensive inspection had been completed and that some stretches would require the installation of a new sewerage system. He said officials have been instructed to issue tenders at the earliest to begin the work. The MC Commissioner added that residents also highlighted cleanliness and other civic concerns, for which necessary directions have been issued to the officers concerned.
Superintending Engineer Sandeep Singh, Executive Engineer Manjit Singh, SDO Ashok Kumar, Chief Sanitary Inspector, village sarpanch Harjeet Singh, and residents including Kuldip Singh, Vijay Kumar, Sudesh Kumar, Sanpreet Singh Bhatia, Gurdas Singh, Raju Bhatia, Rompy, Sajan Kumar, and Rahul Kumar were present during the visit.
