AMRITSAR: Following the death of a Pakistani prisoner inside the Jaipur Central Jail on Wednesday, the security of Pakistani prisoners at the Amritsar Central Jail has been enhanced.

Amritsar, February 21

Following the death of a Pakistani prisoner inside the Jaipur Central Jail on Wednesday, the security of Pakistani prisoners at the Amritsar Central Jail has been enhanced. Though official say that it is a routine affair, the strengthening of security of Pakistani prisoners is being seen as a move to keep the situation under check in the wake of deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Pulwama that led to the martyrdom of 44 CRPF jawans five days ago.

Jaish-e-Mohammed had claimed the responsibility of the attack while India contended that it had the backing of Pakistan’s army and ISI.

A convict, Shakir Ullah, was beaten to death on Wednesday afternoon after a brawl over watching television. He was undergoing life imprisonment for the last two years ago. Reacting over it, Pakistan sought a response from India as it termed the incident a retaliatory act after Pulwama terror attack.

Arshdeep Singh, Superintendent, Amritsar Central Jail, said there were around 55 Pakistani prisoners languishing here. He said they were already under high security and lodged in separate barracks guarded by heavy police force.

“This is nothing new and it is a routine affair. Adequate security is there for Pakistani inmates,” he said. — TNS
