Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla has lauded the Punjab volleyball team for its historic bronze medal win at the 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship, where they defeated the Services team. The championship concluded recently, marking Punjab’s return to the national open volleyball podium after a gap of 21 years. The state last won a medal in the championship in 2006.
Punjab Volleyball Association president and MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla personally spoke to all the players over the phone and congratulated them on their remarkable performance. He said the achievement was the result of a completely transparent and fair selection process.
MP Aujla emphasised that only deserving and hardworking players were selected, without any recommendations or favouritism, which led to Punjab clinching a bronze medal after more than two decades. He added that honest selections invariably lead to historic results.
“The selection of five Punjab players for the national team is a matter of great pride for the entire state. This achievement was possible only because sincere and dedicated players were given freedom, respect and the opportunity to perform,” he said.
MP Aujla called each player individually to congratulate them and urged them to aim higher, stating that the next target should be a gold medal. He said achieving this would require even greater dedication and hard work.
He further said that 2025-26 has emerged as a golden phase for Punjab volleyball. “In November 2025, the Punjab junior boys’ team won a bronze medal at Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, laying a strong foundation. Now, the senior team has carried this legacy forward,” he said.
During his interaction with the players, MP Aujla also announced that he would take up the matter with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ensure that the players are honoured at the state level. He said recognising their achievements would boost their morale and inspire the next generation of athletes in Punjab.
