MP raises Ferozepur rail link demand

AMRITSAR: Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik has raised the demand of Amritsar-Ferozepur rail link it in the Parliament.

Amritsar, July 27

Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik has raised the demand of Amritsar-Ferozepur rail link it in the Parliament. He said the rail route was vital for entire northern India. It will transform the economic fortunes of the whole north India, including Punjab, as it will connect the region to the western part of the country, including Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat. It will offer an alternate route. Citing example of Jaat agitation in Haryana, he said that due to agitation, northern states were cut off with the rest of the country because of the single rail route.

It will connect Punjab to the western coast of India via Rajasthan and Gujrat. This rail link will help decongest Amritsar-Delhi and Jammu-Delhi routes. Besides being a strategic defence alternative, it will reduce the distance between Amritsar and Mumbai by approximately 240 km.

According to the MP, it will be the ideal route for the delivery of perishable goods like vegetables and fruits from Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal to western states. — TNS
