Amritsar, September 6

Members of the Sanjha Mulazam Manch held a protest in front of DC office here on Friday against the policies of state government. As many as 21 members of the organisation, led by senior member Nirmal Singh Anand, sat on a one-day hunger strike as a mark of protest.

The protesting members said the state Finance Minister had not fulfilled his promises made during the Assembly polls. “The employees recruited after 2004 have not been included in the pension scheme, even the DA and arrears have not been released by the government. The demand of Rs 2,000 medical allowance and cashless insurance has not been implemented. Several other demands like reduction in promotion period time from three years to two years, filling up of the vacant posts and regularisation of the contractual employees should be implemented at the earliest. There are several hundred employees in the state suffering financial losses due to the policy delay and lapses on the part of the government. Members of the organisation across the state have been protesting against the injustice being meted out to them,” said Jagdish Naggar, general secretary, Punjab State Ministerial Service Union, Amritsar.
