A religious procession was taken out in the city to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on Monday.

Students from various educational institutions under Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) formed queues, chanted hymns from Gurbani and passed through various parts of the city to pay obeisance at Harmandir Sahib.

Gatka (Sikh martial art) team was part of the procession.  The Panj Piaras (five beloveds), top management functionaries, principals, teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges and schools took part in the parade, which passed through GT Road, Putlighar, Railway Station, Bhandari Bridge, Hall Gate, Hall Bazar, Kotwali and culminated at Ghanta Ghar outside the Golden Temple. This year’s nagar kirtan was dedicated to Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary, said KCGC president Satyajit Singh Majithia.

KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and other office-bearers said the religious procession was aimed to highlight the philosophy and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev.
