The patient was diagnosed with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma which had spread to nearby lymph nodes and lungs. Because of a recent heart attack and angioplasty, the patient was not suitable for standard targeted cancer medication, which carries higher cardiac and bleeding risks, said the doctors.
The oncology team, therefore, opted for a safer and more effective treatment approach through dual immunotherapy, tailored specifically to her condition, said Dr Amritjot Singh Randhawa, Consultant, Medical Oncology, who designed the treatment plan for the patient.
“Advanced cancer case and existing medical conditions should never become a reason to stop the treatment. With the right strategy and modern therapies, even high-risk cancer cases can be managed effectively and safely,” said Dr Randhawa.
