The police have failed so far to make any significant breakthrough in the sensational robbery that took place in Guru Bazaar on Saturday. It has been reliably learnt that the police have taken a person into custody, who allegedly provided them shelter after the robbery. However, police officials haven’t confirmed it as they preferred to keep mum.

Meanwhile, it has also been learnt that the police had already got information from its sources that gangster Karan Masti had been planning a major robbery, but before the police could act, the criminals struck at Guru Bazaar.

Officials said the investigation was under progress and disclosing any detail would hamper the probe.

Around seven armed robbers had looted a jewellery store, Prem Kumar and Sons. They had decamped with jewellery worth Rs 2 crore. After scrutinising CCTV cameras, the police have zeroed in on gangster Rajat Malhotra, alias Karan Masti, and his accomplices.

He is said to have been involved in another robbery from a jeweller that took place in May this year. Though the police had nabbed two persons in that case, Masti has been evading arrest. The police officials said that various teams had been conducting raids at the suspected hideouts of the robbers.

Highly-placed sources in the police also revealed that cops had already got information through their sources that Karan Masti had been planning a major robbery. However, before they could act, the gangster struck at Guru Bazaar.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) JS Walia said the police were doing their job and the accused would be arrested soon. Police teams have been conducting raids for their arrest.
