Instead of raising issues related to development, leaders of the Congress as well as the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are raking up desecration of Guru Granth Sahib and the Bluestar episode while campaigning for zila parishad elections, much to the chagrin of residents.

Attari MLA Tarsem Singh DC said in a public meeting in Manawala, “The SAD is crueler than the Britishers and their actions against the Sikhs in Behbal Kalan was more horrifying than Jallianwala Bagh massacre.”

Similarly, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia hasaccused the Congress of engineering the attack on Akal Takht and Delhi riots.

Gurpreet Singh of Wadala village asks, “What about the promises made by the Congress in its manifesto before the Assembly elections? The Congress may avoid discussion on such issues, but why the Opposition is not focusing.”

Jaswinder Singh of Naag village said, “Villagers are being forced to drink polluted water. Roads in rural areas are in a pathetic condition, but political leaders are discussing history.”

Manjinder Singh of Pandori village said, “It is the time to discuss embezzlement of funds by panchayats in the recent years. Members of zila parishads, block samitis and sarpanches have misappropriated funds. It should be a poll issue?”
