Pathankot lad clinches open water swimming title in Europe
Becomes first Indian to complete 13-km Lausanne-Évian-les-Bains stretch
Montessori Cambridge School, Pathankot, is celebrating another outstanding international achievement after its talented swimmer, Vinaayaka Mahajan, emerged victorious in the prestigious Lake Classique 13-km Open Water Swimming Event, organised by Lake Geneva Swimming Association.
The internationally acclaimed competition attracted elite open-water swimmers from several countries, including the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Switzerland and others. Participants were required to complete the demanding 13-kilometre course across Lake Geneva, starting in Lausanne, Switzerland, and finishing at Évian-les-Bains, France.
Demonstrating remarkable endurance, determination and exceptional swimming ability, Mahajan delivered a superb performance to secure first place in the international field. In doing so, he became the first Indian to successfully complete the iconic cross-border swim.
Adding another milestone to his achievement, Mahajan also broke the existing record to become the world’s fastest swimmer and the first Indian ever to complete the demanding 13-kilometre Lausanne-Évian-les-Bains stretch, setting a new benchmark in international open-water swimming.
His achievement reflects unwavering dedication, disciplined training and an indomitable spirit. The feat has brought immense pride not only to Montessori Cambridge School, Pathankot, but also to the nation, with Mahajan once again showcasing India’s growing excellence on the global sporting stage.
The school management congratulated Mahajan on his historic success. Chairman Vinod Mahajan, Vice-Chairman Akash Mahajan and Director-Principal Rashmi Ahluwalia praised his outstanding achievement, saying his perseverance, commitment and passion for excellence continue to inspire young athletes to dream big and represent India with pride. They also wished him continued success in his future national and international sporting endeavours.
