A drug peddler escaped from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDH) where he was admitted for treatment here on Wednesday. He has been identified as Harpreet Singh of Bauha village, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. He was lodged in Kapurthala jail.
He was brought to the GNDH and Head Constable Baljit Singh, Ramesh Kumar and Constable Gurwinder Singh were deputed to guard him in the hospital.
On Wednesday, a police team, headed by Inspector Narinder Singh of Kapurthala Police Lines, turned up at the hospital and found the accused as well as the cops missing. Later, he was informed that Harpreet Singh had escaped from the hospital following which the cops also went away.
The Majitha Road police have registered a case against the smuggler as well as the three cops under Sections 223 and 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
