Amritsar, February 12

Members of the Punjab Pensioners Union have sought early release of DA instalments and the pay commission arrears due from January 1, 2016.

These demands were made during the monthly meeting of the union held under the joint leadership of its president Darshan Singh Chhina and general secretary Satya Pal Gupta.

Non-implementation of 2.59 coefficient recommended by the pay commission and non-payment of the arrears due from January 1, 2016 were causing harassment of pensioners, they claimed. The non-payment of medical bills are other major causes forcing them to hold public protests.

The leaders claimed the state government had betrayed the pensioners of the zila parishad by not giving them the benefits on the pattern of the state government employees, besides the government had not regularised the services of contract workers.

They alleged that even two years after formation of the AAP government in the state, not even a single demand of the employees had been fulfilled. Finance secretary Balraj Singh Bhangu said if the AAP government continued with its approach of ignoring the interests of the employees then it would suffer defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He said the government was forcing pensioners to come to the streets.
