PFUCTO to launch stir for UGC pay scales

Hails Himachal Pradesh Cabinet for implementing UGC scales

Amritsar, July 30

The Punjab Federation of University College Teachers’ Organisation (PFUCTO) has decided to launch an agitation against the state government’s delay in implementing the UGC pay scales on a par with other states.

PFUCTO spokesperson Dr LS Kang and Dr Jagwant Singh, president and general secretary of PFUCTO, welcomed the decision of the Cabinet of Himachal Pradesh to implement the UGC pay scales. “For the first time, the Chandigarh Administration and HP have decided to break away from the practice of adopting the notification of Punjab. This makes Punjab as the only state which has not notified the UGC pay scales,” said Dr Kang.

Dr Jagwant Singh pointed out that while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had failed to implement their announcement in the State Assembly on June 25 and June 28, Himachal Chief Minister Jairam Thakur kept his promise made at a public rally on June 22.

“This has forced PFUCTO to launch an agitation after spending four months trying to convince the government. On August 3, teachers of Punjab along with teachers of other states will protest in New Delhi to impress upon the UGC and the AAP national convener to play their roles in forcing Punjab to implement the pay scales and become part of the national mainstream on August 10. A regional rally will be held at PAU in Ludhiana and further course of action will be decided on that day,” said Dr Kang.
