Amritsar, July 22
Several physicians on Sunday interacted with the police on the issue of violence against healthcare providers during a session organised by the Indian Medical Association, Amritsar (IMA-Amritsar).
The interaction was attended by Police Commissioner SS Srivastava and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amrik Singh Powar.
IMA-Amritsar president Dr Ashok Uppal expressed concern over the rising instances of violence against doctors by the attendants of patients at hospitals. “The doctors are under stress. It has become very difficult for the medical practitioners to work under such atmosphere of fear and violence. There have been number of such instances in the city,” he said, adding that such instances lower the morale of doctors.
Srivastava said the department was committed to ensure the safety of doctors. He said the doctors must feel secure and confident. Hospitals too need to make proper security arrangements and ensure that cameras are installed, he said.
Members of the IMA, including senior faculty members of Government Medical College and other institutions, were present.
