Pingalwara society organises environmental awareness rally in Amritsar

Pingalwara conducted rally for environment and for humanity in Amritsar on Thursday

The All India Pingalwara Charitable Society has been conducting a series of social and cultural activities in the lead up to its centenary year. As part of these, the Pingalwara family took out a “mass environmental awareness rally” to highlight the need to save water, use cloth bags instead of plastic, prefer clay pots over plastic bottles, and adopt copper and brass utensils to prevent disease at home.

During the rally, volunteers distributed cloth bags to people carrying plastic bags and urged them to switch to eco-friendly alternatives. The rally started from the Pingalwara head office in Amritsar and passed through GT Road, Hussainpura Chowk, Nandan Cinema Chowk, Rambagh Chowk, Thana Rambagh, Hall Gate, Gol Hatti, Rambagh Bazaar, Vegetable Market Rambagh, IDH Market Bus Stand, Chowk Mahna Singh, Shera Wala Gate, Ghee Mandi, Akali Phula Singh Road and Ram Talai Tandoor Wala Chowk before returning to the head office.

Around 800 students and teachers from various institutions participated, including Bhagat Puran Singh Adarsh Senior Secondary School, the School for Deaf, Special School, Institute for Special Needs, Chief Khalsa Diwan and Shaheed Udham Singh Yatimkhana of Pingalwara.

Bhagat Puran Singh, a philanthropist and environmentalist, founded Pingalwara. The organisation has consistently worked for environmental conservation and preservation. It runs schools for underprivileged children and care homes for the destitute, disabled and elderly.

During the rally, children raised slogans such as “Save water drop by drop”, “Replace plastic”, “Use cloth bags” and “Clean the environment”, spreading awareness about the health risks linked to pollution.
