Dr Lakhwinder Singh Gill’s book on Punjabi poetry “Tu Kion Nahi Bolda” was released here on Friday during a programme organised by the Amritsar Sahit Chintak Manch, Janwadi Lekhak Manch and Ekam Sahit Manch at Punjab Naatshala.
It is the first poetry book by Dr Gill, who is Deputy Director, Director Public Instructions(DPI), Colleges.
Holding a doctorate in English literature, earlier he had been professor and head post graduate department of English at SR Government College for Women for nearly two decades. He had penned three books in English and published articles in many prestigious national and international journals.
Writing poetry in the mother tongue is his passion. His poem “Mera Pind Bolia” was much acclaimed in literary circles and was filmed and telecast by Door Darshan Jalandhar.
Hailing from a remote village near Dera Naba Nanak, he got his schooling from the village school and did hid MA, MPHIL and PhD from Guru Nanak Dev University.
He credited his academic achievement to his committed teachers who instilled in him the confidence for public speaking and for creative writing.
SP Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, was the chief guest. Dr Harbhajan Singh Bhatia, a famous Punjabi literary critic, said subjects of the anthology take up human feelings, agony and concerns in a pigment way.
