Police bust cross-border narco network, 2 arrested
A consignment of 7 kg and 630 grams of heroin was also recovered
In a significant crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled an alleged narco-smuggling network, arresting two operatives and recovering a consignment of 7 kg and 630 grams of heroin along with Rs 21,800 suspected drug proceeds.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested individuals were operating under the direction of a Dubai-based handler. The accused were reportedly communicating through virtual numbers to coordinate for smuggling cross-border heroin consignments, including instructions for pick-up points and further distribution within the region.
Director General of Police shared information on X and said that the investigations carried out so far revealed that the handler is suspected to have links with multiple narcotics syndicates and is also connected to a major case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act involving the recovery of 43 kilograms of heroin recently.
An FIR has been registered at Chheharta Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
Police teams are continuing investigations to identify both forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network, with efforts underway to uncover additional associates and supply routes, said DGP.
