Amritsar, July 18

Even after elapsing more than 24 hours, the police are still clueless about the identity of the youth who was found murdered near railway tracks between Kot Khalsa and Chheharta on Wednesday.

The body of the deceased had many injury marks while the killers also tried to burn his face to hide his identity. They took away his identity proofs and mobile phone. The police suspect that he was killed somewhere else and dumped on the railway tracks.

Sukhwinder Singh Malli, SHO, Government Railway Police, said the police were yet to identify the victim. He said footage of CCTVs installed nearby were scrutinised but nothing concrete came out. He said there was also no missing report filed in the past two days.

He said the picture of the deceased was circulated among all police stations in Punjab. Until we succeed in establishing the identity of the deceased, it would be difficult to carry out further investigation. The body was kept in mortuary for identification for now, he added.
