Amritsar, August 12

Police Commissioner SS Srivastav along with other police officials supervised the security arrangements in various parts of the city on Sunday. The security has been beefed up as Independence Day celebrations are just three days away.

He visited Bhandari Bridge in the wee hours. Vehicles entering the city were checked. Talking to mediapersons, he said that the entry and exit points of the city had been sealed and vehicles were being checked regularly. He said the police had received a company of the Border Security Force. Personnel of the armed reserve force of the state had also been stationed at various points. He said senior police officials had been directed to remain in the field and supervise the security arrangements at the vital locations, including near Darbar Sahib and Durgiana Temple. They were also instructed to remain present and visit different checkpoints installed at various locations.

Dog squad was also pressed to service. Police teams carried out a search operation at the city railway station.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh said the second line of defence near the Indo-Pakistan border had been strengthened and a close watch was being kept at the unscrupulous elements in order to thwart any untoward incident.
