Programme held on challenges of sustainability

Training programme on ‘Sustainability and Circularity (Mass-Value-Carbon)’ was organised by the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi (CSE) in collaboration with Faculty of Physical Planning and Architecture, Guru Nanak Dev University.

The focus of the programme was to train the faculty and students of planning and architecture departments regarding the issues and challenges of sustainability and circularity in urban areas concerning state of environment 2019, feasibility of waste to energy plants in India, wastewater issues, non organic materials – optimising the third skin, policy matters for sustainable and urbanization and environment, environment impact assessment, solid and liquid waste management, sustainable materials and thermal comfort.

The programme was inaugurated by chief guest Prof SS Behl, dean, academic affairs, Guru Nanak Dev University. He emphasised that sustainability and circularity were the core issues in present-day urban life and habitat. While appreciating the efforts of Centre for Science and Environment, Prof Behl mentioned about the establishment of Centre for Sustainable Habitat (CSH) to be established under RUSA in Guru Nanak Dev University.

He informed that the Centre would invest Rs 10 crore for such research and training activities and the university would appreciate the inputs of CSE, Delhi, in achieving the objectives of the Centre. Dr Kiran Sandhu, head, GRD School of Planning, appreciated the efforts of the CSE team for sharing different researches on sustainability during different training programmes. She also appraised the continuous efforts made by Prof Ashwani Luthra of Guru Ramdas School of Planning in organising such informative and thought to provoke training programmes. The training programme was attended by 120 participants.
