The surroundings of the residential quarters of Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) office at Khandwala are in a pitiable state as sewage continues to remain stagnant here.
Not only the dwellers but also the visitors have been complaining about the harrowing time they are going through. They say that the situation here is same for long. A resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said, “The residents of the quarters and the staff working at the place are worried as in next few days the area will become a breeding-ground for mosquitoes.”
Jarmanjit Singh, who visited the office to pay for electricity consumption, said the condition of the place was extremely poor. “Foul smell emanates here. It might be difficult for the employees and residents as they have to bear it round the clock. The place should be cleared of water.”
Even the residents of nearby areas complained that if an early solution is not found, it might result in problems for them. “The dengue and malaria season is at hand. We have complained to the office employees repeatedly and asked them to find a water outlet,” said Kewal Ram, a neighbour.
Officials say they have taken up the matter with their higher-ups, who in return have complained to MC officials. “The sewerage points are seemingly choked and it is hoped that these will be cleared at the earliest,” he said, adding that the ground level was low that is why water accumulation occurs.
