On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Smart City Mission, review meetings were held at the Central and state level to throw light on the progress in accordance with the residents’ aspirations. The efforts of Amritsar in its Smart City initiative were simultaneously reviewed by Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri at New Delhi through videoconferencing with senior officials in attendance in the holy city.

While assuring uniform fund flow, the Union minister said the ongoing pipeline projects of the ASCL would be completed in a time-bound manner. Officials stated that with the initial phase of planning of most of the projects having been over, the focus is on implementation phase to improve liveability of the city.

Attending the meeting, Rajeev Sekhri, Nodal Officer of the project, also stressed upon the residents to step-up and associate themselves with the Amritsar Smart City Ltd in making the projects a resounding success.

Komal Mittal, Chief Executive Officer, Amritsar Smart City Limited, said five projects, including LED street lighting, solar rooftop solution, development of parks and open spaces, free Wi-Fi facility at the Heritage Street and smart classrooms, are at the implementation stage in Amritsar. Work orders of 11 tendered projects are likely to be finalised within two months.

Officials said the projects had been conceived in accordance with needs and wish-list of the residents of Amritsar.

The completion of the projects is being undertaken by the ASCL in collaboration with officials of various Central and state government schemes. “It is going to be a landmark achievement in retrofitting of Amritsar,” officials added.
