The special investigating team (SIT) probing into the explosion that took two lives and left several injured in Luv Kush Nagar in Putlighar area, here September 23 evening, has been awaiting the forensic report in order to proceed further in the case.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and order) Jagmohan Singh, the statements of those injured in the blast were inconclusive to ascertain what caused the blast and thereby unfortunate deaths and injuries. The DCP is heading the SIT constituted by Police Commissioner Dr Sukhchain Singh Gill for investigating the incident.
“The forensic reports will help in establishing what led to the blast at junk dealer’s house and nature of the explosive material present at the scene,” said DCP.
Among others, members of the SIT are Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Punjab Bureau of Investigations Kirpal Singh and Assistant Police Commissioner Palwinder Singh.
The residents had blamed the police administration for the blast. They claimed that the police had got the Cantonment police station cleaned and the scrap was sold to the scrap dealer by the police. The dealer brought the same to his residence in the congested Luv Kush Colony. The scrap included fire crackers and certain paper files.
The residents had alleged that it was sheer negligence on the part of the police which failed to locate the hand grenade-like material while cleaning the scrap.
