PWD engineer in Amritsar booked for corruption

The CBI has registered a case against an executive engineer of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Nitish Kumar was booked following a complaint by one Navjot Saini of Dream City locality here. The probe into the case was entrusted to an SI-rank officer, who found the allegations true.
A case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered by the CBI on February 10 and the inquiry was marked to an inspector.
Saini had lodged the complaint to the DIG, CBI, on February 4. In his complaint, he alleged that he worked as the administration head, Punjab, of an infrastructure-based company. The firm was awarded a contract of Rs 72 crore for the construction of IIM, Amritsar.
Saini alleged that as per the contract, after the completion of specific portions of the work, bills would be submitted to the CPWD for reimbursement. Thus, after verification, these would be forwarded to Kumar for clearance of payments.
Saini alleged that the bills amounting to Rs 25 crore were submitted and payments released but in some instances, there was unnecessary delay in the release of payments from Kumar’s side.
Saini alleged that he met Kumar, who demanded illegal gratification. He alleged that though he repeatedly requested Kumar to release the payments, but the latter insisted on bribe.
