Rana is UNESCO rapporteur

AMRITSAR: Shammi Rana, a city resident, has been appointed as the rapporteur of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Traditional Sports and Games to promote the UNESCO’s mandate on traditional sports and games. He is also the secretary general of the Asian Belt Wrestling Federation. Rana is promoting belt wrestling as martial arts and traditional sports and games. He is acclaimed globally as a public relations expert and promoter of Martial Arts Organisations. TNS

Mishap victim succumbs

Tarn Taran: Darshan Singh (50) of Goindwal Sahib, 25 km from here, who was seriously injured in a road accident at his village four days ago, succumbed to his injuries at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. The Goindwal Sahib police have registered a case under Sections 304-A and 279 against Dilbag Singh of Chatiwind (Amritsar) in connection with the mishap. Dilbag Singh had reportedly rammed his motorcycle into Darshan Singh, leaving him critically injured. Later, residents had staged a protest, demanding action against the accused. OC

Travel agents booked for fraud

Two persons, said to be travel agents, have been booked for allegedly defrauding a city resident of lakhs of rupees. The Chohla Sahib police said the accused took Rs 3.86 lakh from Swaran Singh, a resident of Kambo Dhai Wala, for getting his son Gurjit Singh settled abroad. The accused have been identified as Dilbag Singh of Chohla Sahib and Gurcharan Singh of Ropar. They have been booked under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC, and relevant sections of the Immigration Act. Such cases are frequently reported not only in the city but also across the state. Youth seeking greener pastures abroad easily fell prey to fraudsters. OC
