Teachers in large numbers today staged a protest against higher-ups for not relieving them from their present stations due to which they are not able to join their new postings. They submitted a memorandum of their demands to the officials concerned.
The protesters said that according to a condition before their appointments, they had to serve in border areas for the first three years. Working away from their hometowns resulted in a number of troubles for them, they said.
Under the transfer policy of the Education Department, the eligible teachers got themselves transferred to their parental districts. They have to join their new postings but higher-ups are not relieving them from their present stations. Protests were organised at the offices of elementary as well as secondary education offices.
District Education Officer (Elementary) Kanwaljit Singh, while accepting their memorandum, said the department had issued instructions not to relieve the teachers till those from other districts reach to replace them keeping the students’ interest in mind.”
