Amritsar, October 21

Members of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) on Sunday demanded a judicial probe into the Amritsar train mishap that claimed the lives of 57 persons on Friday evening.

Rattan Singh Randhawa and Jagtar Singh Karampura of the RMPI urged the railways to provide jobs to the victims’ families, who belonged to economically weaker sections of the society and were migrants of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. They also sought Rs 20 lakh compensation for family members of the victims.

The activists of RMPI carried out a peaceful march from Lohgarh Chowk to Hall Gate. They observed a two-minute silence in their memory. They said the relief process should be expedited.

Meanwhile, the Taraksheel Society also demanded a high-level probe into the incident and expressed their sympathies with the aggrieved families. — TNS
