Amritsar, September 18

As many as 523 employees, including women, who were terminated by the SGPC some months ago, staged a protest on Tuesday outside the main office of the SGPC.

With their demand to reinstate them, they continued the protest till late evening.

They were employed during the tenure of Kirpal Singh Badungar as the president of the apex body, but were laid off after Gobind Singh Longowal took the charge.

The protestors said they were victimised due to internal politics. On the other hand, allegations surfaced that they were the kin of SGPC members and the qualification and experience criteria was overlooked while employing them during the earlier regime.

After scrutiny, their services were terminated by the executive body and fresh applications were sought for the posts.

One of the agitating employees said he was posted in the ‘Parikrama’ but was removed without citing any reason.

The agitating employees also met SGPC secretary Manjit Singh and demanded to fix an appointment with Longowal.

They said that they would continue their protest till they were reinstated.
