SAD’s former sarpanch of Mianpur shot at, 10 booked

TARN TARAN: Surjit Singh, a SAD leader and former sarpanch of Mianpur village, 25 km from here, was shot at and injured in Mianpur on Wednesday night.

Surjit Singh, a SAD leader and former sarpanch of Mianpur village, 25 km from here, was shot at and injured in Mianpur on Wednesday night.

The Sarai Amanat Khan police have registered a case under Sections 307, 427, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC and 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against 10 persons. The police have identified Amritpal Singh Bath and his father Satnam Singh, two of the 10 accused, while others are yet to be identified.

Surjit Singh and his brother Kanwaljit Singh after closing their shop were returning home when armed men attacked on them. The accused pulled Surjit out of the car, beat him up and shot at his leg.

The ongoing conflict between the two groups was said to be the reason behind the incident.

Surjit Singh has been admitted to the Kasel Civil Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
