Sand tipper overturns on Amritsar bypass, 2 feared dead, several injured
Injured rescued with the help of cranes, rushed to hospitals
A couple of people were feared dead and several others injured after a sand-laden tipper truck veered onto a footpath and overturned, trapping three cars beneath it.
The accident took place on the Amritsar Bypass near Verka, when the heavily loaded truck lost control and overturned.
Eyewitnesses said the collision created panic in the area as families, including children, were travelling in the affected vehicles.
Initial reports indicate at least two people lost their lives, while about five others sustained serious injuries due to the impact.
Local residents rushed to the spot and helped the police in rescuing. Police with the help of cranes and other equipments, managed to remove the vehicles trapped under the heaps of sand and the overturned truck. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals.

The accident led to a traffic congestion on the Amritsar Bypass, with vehicles stranded for several kilometres.
Additional DCP (Traffic) Amandeep Kaur said, “Our priority was to rush the injured to hospitals and put in efforts to manage the traffic on the Amritsar Bypass.”
Police is yet to ascertain the total number of deceased, and investigation is under way.
