Day after the sensational murder of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) employee at its office in Teja Singh Samundri Hall in the Golden Temple complex, the Kotwali police have arrested a suspect identified as Malkeet Singh, a resident of the Town Hall road here.
He accompanied the prime suspect, identified as Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Jalalpura village in Majitha, now residing at the Golden Temple Colony on the Sultanwind road, to the crime scene.
Besides Sukhbir Singh and Malkeet Singh, the police have booked a five persons on the charge of murder. Among others, who were named in the FIR, included Sukhbir’s two sons Arsh and Sajan while identity of one of their accomplices was yet to be established.
Inspector Harsandeep Singh, SHO, Kotwali police station, confirmed the arrest of Malkeet Singh in the murder case. “Malkeet Singh has been arrested while raids are on to nab the remaining suspects who are on the run since the incident,” he said.
Balwinder Kaur, wife of the victim, identified as Darbara Singh, a resident of Kherabad village, told the police that Sukhbir’s daughter had eloped from the house and he was blaming her husband Darbara Singh for this. Both the suspect and the victim were relatives. Darbara was posted as accounts clerk while Sukhbir was posted in the general branch of the SGPC.
Darbara was stabbed to death when he was having lunch at his office. Sukhbir, along with accomplices, had approached Darbara and entered into a verbal dual which soon took an ugly turn when Sukhbir stabbed the victim in the chest. Darbara was immediately rushed to Guru Ram Dass Hospital where was declared brought dead on arrival.
