Shopkeeper shot dead in Tarn Taran village

In broad daylight, a shopkeeper was shot dead by two masked robbers at Bhullar village on the main Tarn Taran-Khadoor Sahib road here on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Daljit Singh, alias Bao (42).

He was standing at the gate of his shop when two masked robbers on a motorcycle arrived at the spot. The robbers demanded a narcotic drug (Coollip) from Daljit Singh. When he denied having such drug, the robbers forcibly took money out of his cash box (galla), leading to an argument between the shopkeeper and the robbers.

Infuriated, the robbers opened fire at him. Three bullets hit Daljit Singh in the chest. Daljit’s wife Sarabjit Kaur, son Simranjit Singh and father Khajan Singh were also a few feet away in the shop.

Daljit Singh was immediately taken to a private hospital here where the doctors declared him dead. On being alerted about incident, a police party, led by Inspector Ranjit Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sadar police station, immediately reached the spot.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba released the photos collected from the footage of nearby CCTV cameras soon after the incident and appealed to the general public to provide information about the robbers. The police have kept the body in the mortuary of the local Civil Hospital here.

A case has been registered by the Sadar police on the statement of Sarabjit Kaur, wife of the deceased.
