Six persons were injured in a pile-up of seven vehicles on the Amritsar-Bathinda highway near Bandala village here on Tuesday. The reason behind the mishap was said to be dense fog.
Eyewitnesses said when a truck loaded with cement bags was taking a U-turn at Butt Morh, it hit a car coming from the opposite side. The driver stopped the truck on the spot for a few minutes. Meanwhile, a trailer rammed the rear of the truck due to low visibility.
The driver of the trailer received injuries. Within a few minutes, a mini truck, two cars and a bus were also involved in the pile-up. Two children in a car had a narrow escape while their parents got injured. No causality was reported in the accident. The victims were taken to a hospital in Tarn Taran.
Rasal Singh, a relative of a victim, said, “My nephew, along with his wife and their two children, was coming from Amritsar on Tuesday morning. While a truck was taking a U-turn at Butt Morh, it hit a car due to low visibility. Children had a narrow escape. Soon, other vehicles also rammted into the truck.”
Balraj Singh, a police officer, said, “Our team reached the spot immediately after the accident. Luckily, injuries were minor. All victims were sent to a hospital for first aid. We have immediately cleared the road to avert further accidents.”
