Snatching makes woman fall from scooter, hurt

Amritsar, April 25

Kanwaljit Kaur, a resident of Kishangarh, sustained head injuries after two bike-borne persons snatched her gold chain near Shivala Bhutnath area, falling under Division B police station, here on Wednesday.

She fell from her scooter after snatching that resulted in severe injuries. The unidentified snatchers managed to slip away though passersby gave them a chase. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The victim was returning home after her office hours when the incident took place. A case has been registered in this regard and an investigation is under way, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mukhwinder Singh said that the city police had been making every effort to nail the snatchers.

Frequent snatching incidents have resulted in a sense of insecurity among people, especially women. S similar incident had occured in posh Ranjit Avenue last month when a private schoolteacher, Malwinder Kaur, had sustained serious injuries. After school hours, she was going on foot to Ranjit Avenue A block for giving private tuition when two bikers tried to snatch her purse near Cedar Spring School. As she did not leave her purse, she fell on the road and sustained injuries and bruises. She was admitted to a private hospital by onlookers. The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed in the area.

In June last year, a teacher, Paramjit Kaur, had died while her daughter Kiranjot Kaur sustained injuries after unknown criminals tried to snatch her purse. The victim had fallen from her scooter during the snatching bid. They were returning home when the unknown accused targeted them in Rani Ka Bagh area. She was riding pillion. She had sustained serious head injury.

In January 2018, snatchers had dragged a woman and her child to some distance before fleeing with her purse.

Bid to catch them

No sooner two bike-borne persons snatched Kanwaljit's gold chain near Shivala Bhutnath area than passersby gave them a chase but couldn't catch them. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. She has sustained severe head injuries.
