Splinters removed from two injured

Doctors at the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital have removed grenade splinters from the body parts of two persons who were injured in the attack at Nirankari Bhavan, Adliwal village, on Sunday. Doctors could not remove pellets from the third patient as he was tested HCVpositive.

“To perform surgeries on HCV patients, more care is required. Besides, a few more tests are to be conducted so the splinters from this patient will be removed on Tuesday,” said Dr Surinder Paul, Medical Superintendent, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital.

The Medical Superintendent said that pellets are usually not removed until the police make a request or the patient complains of pain or other trouble. “These patients reported pain on Monday and so procedures were done,” he said, adding that in coming days, few more injured might complain of problems so surgeries would be conducted accordingly.

Of the 22 injured in the grenade attack on Sunday, 13 have been admitted at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital while the remaining are under treatment at a private institute, Ivy Hospital. Health officials said all the patients were out of danger and would be discharged after their wounds heal. Dr Surinder Paul said the patients had received multiple minor injuries due to grenade pellets. The hospitals were visited by many ministers, including the chief minister, on Monday.

Meanwhile, health officials have stated that all of the injured, inculding nine women, are stable.

GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Surinder Paul said, “All of them are stable. Most of them have received splinter injuries due to the explosion. The treatment is being carried out free of cost as per the government instructions.”

The injured are Surjit Kaur, Simranjit Kaur, Mehakjit Kaur and Desa Singh from Meerakot village, Gagandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Jasbir Kaur, Sarabjit Singh, Avtar Singh, Kashmir Kaur, Gurpiyar Singh, Rajwant Kaur and Lal Bihari from Rajasansi village, Kulwinder Singh from Shehra Kalan village, Harwinder Singh of Bagga Khurd village, Harjot Singh and Kuldeep Singh of Kukkrawalan village, Nirmal Kaur of Ganupur village, Ajit Singh of Harsha Chhina village, Sukhwinder Kaur and Dilsher Singh of Dhaul Kalan village and Satinder Kumar of Loharka road.
